When Voice of Calvary Ministries’ volunteers, many who travel a long distance to be with us for a week, stop work to have lunch, they not only partake of good food to replenish their physical bodies, they also receive good food for their “souls”.  This soul food comes from the lunchtime speakers who share their inspiring and encouraging life stories. Mr. Lloyd Ashley was one of our lunchtime speakers during the week of January 1-5, 2018.  Mr. Ashley served in the Army for 21 years before retiring. His motivation to come to Jackson was to take care of his mom. Mr. Ashley shared about his time in the Army which, in answer to a question, included an example of the danger our soldiers encounter when stationed in a combat zone. After retiring, Mr. Ashley went on to share that he had to deal with the challenges of being a homeless veteran and how he was put in contact with VOCM from whom he eventually purchased a ‘like new’ renovated house where he and his mom now thankfully and happily reside.  We are thankful to Mr. Ashley for his faithful service to our country and now in retirement for his exemplary model of service and love as he faithfully cares for his mom.  Mr. Ashley encourages each of us by his attitude of service that we should emulate within the context of our own vocation and relationships.
