After School -Expansion & Kick-Off

Building on the success we experienced in 2013-2014 school year we have kicked off our After School Program, at Barr Elementary School. Our goal is to introduce a curriculum of science, technology, engineering, art, and math.

We will provide an extended school day Monday through Thursday for 40 students in grades three through five. We will make a purposeful effort to engage with the families. This effort will include workshops and counseling on how the family members may help their students be more successful.

During the 2013-2014 school year, we sponsored the after school program at Barr Elementary School located in west Jackson and the results were overwhelming. The group improved in English Language Arts from 46% proficiency to 89%, and in math from 70% to 80% proficiency.

Refreshments were enjoyed by all the students!

Four groups of students each performed some ‘Cheers’ to motivate everyone to study and do well. One Cheer was in appreciation of this extra help and contained the words, “Mr. Reed rocks the house…” 🙂
