Jack Downing, the CEO of Soldier On was in Jackson last week. Jack took time to speak to the entire staff of Voice of Calvary Ministries (VOCM) and answer questions at a special breakfast meeting. Jack is not only inspiring; but, as is evident from the first time you meet him or hear him speak, there is no doubt he is unabashedly passionate about serving our veterans. Jack’s passion has fueled the development of high quality permanent and transitional housing and support services for homeless or at-risk veterans.
Here are the thoughts of Preston Williams, one of our SSVF Peer Counselors, about Jack’s message to our staff.
“Most important was that he (Jack Downing) mentioned that we should meet people where they are. I feel that this is a basic ministry principle because our Creator set this same example when He ate with the ‘common people’ (Matt 9:10)”
Soldier On is both a valued and strategic partner in delivering Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF). VOCM’s SSVF staff reach out to homeless and unstably-housed veterans in Mississippi to provide case management and support services to assist them in becoming stably housed. Our SSVF staff consists of case managers and support staff to assist in locating permanent housing and support services, including jobs, transportation, childcare and other resources necessary to become stable and self-sufficient. Additionally, temporary financial assistance for rental and utilities deposits, rental and utilities assistance, childcare, and transportation services.
We are thankful to serve each of our veterans willing to die to serve our great country!
