Our Resident Enrichment Specialists provide services to residents of 44 apartment complexes owned by Southern Management. These complexes are HUD subsidized and located in rural and extremely rural communities across the state of Mississippi. The program is designed to improve the quality of life for these residents by providing access to healthcare services, social services, mental health services and more. The goal of the program is to help as many people as are able to become independent enough to not need to live in subsidized housing. We do this by working one on one with individuals and families to improve basic life skills, improve financial education, provide workforce training and education and
assist in removing barriers to their success.
Through a partnership with the MS Department of Health, we have two Community Health Workers(CHW) assigned to VOCM who are trained to teach
residents about managing diabetes, how to do self-blood pressure checks, healthy eating, etc. Because many of our locations are long distances from clinics and hospitals, CHW’s coordinate with mobile medical units across the state to provide onsite healthcare to each complex on a regular basis.
