Safe & Affordable Housing
Since 1975, VOCM has completely rehabbed nearly 300 houses for sale to low- and moderate-income families in West Jackson. In addition, we were able to construct a sixteen unit new housing development named Victory Park in McComb, Miss., for Hurricane Katrina victims.
In 2010, VOCM was one of only two local nonprofits to receive a grant from both the City of Jackson and the Mississippi Development Authority to participate in the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) grant. Through this funding, we acquired and substantially rehabbed 37 vacant, foreclosed and dilapidated houses in south Jackson. All of these houses are like new and energy efficient.
More than remodeling
Along with providing remodeled houses, we work to provide other amenities, such as our 16-acre Claiborne Park, which attracts potential homeowners to move into our community. Our goal is to rebuild communities as well as provide quality and affordable housing.
Our services include: Home Buyer Education: provides an eight hour curriculum for potential new homeowners with valuable information that will allow them to make the best decisions for their first home purchase.
Our future initiatives include constructing a new, permanent housing development for low-income veterans called Heroes Village. We are also partnering with multiple private developers on larger community development projects. VOCM is poised to increase our affordable housing efforts, and reach our goal of revitalizing entire city neighborhoods.
