Phil came to Jackson from his home state of Indiana in 1975 to work as a volunteer with Voice of Calvary. Phil was founding pastor of Voice of Calvary Fellowship, the first interracial congregation in the City. He became President/CEO of VOCM in 1999 and served until 2007. He returned as President/CEO in 2009. Phil has a BA in mathematics from Indiana University, an MA in mathematics from Miami (OH) University, and an M. Div. from Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, MS.
Phil met his future wife, Marcia, in 1976 when she also came to volunteer with Voice of Calvary. They were married in 1977 and have lived since then in west Jackson. Phil and Marcia are the proud parents of Matthew (Tina) Reed, Erin (Eric) Eady, and Kristin (Jon) Sanders, and the grandparents of Jackson, Katelyn, Evan, Riley and Kelsie (and one on the way!). Phil and Marcia have been dedicated for forty years to the spiritual, economic, physical and social development of the people of Jackson, especially west Jackson. They want everyone to know that they believe that “West is Best”.
